Show What You Know About Short Vowel Sounds

I used this activity as an assessment for short vowel sounds. First, we played "Mix, Freeze, Switch"...one of my favorite movement activities. I handed each child a vowel card. They "mix"..."freeze"...and "switch" when given the directive. Whatever card they end up with they had to show me what they know by recording words with the corresponding short vowel sound on the heart grid pattern. We used a white crayon....(very tricky...it was hard to see what they were writing) Then, they painted over the pattern with water-color paints
